When God spoke to Moses, it was much more then just, “I AM”.
God’s reply in Hebrew was: ’Eh‧yeh′ ’Asher′ ’Eh‧yeh′. Some translations render this as “I AM THAT I AM.” However, it is to be noted that the Hebrew verb ha‧yah′, from which the word ’Eh‧yeh′ is drawn, does not mean simply “be.” Rather, it means “become,” or “prove to be.” The reference here is not simply to God’s self-existence but also to what he has decided/determined to become toward others. Therefore, the New World Translation properly renders the above Hebrew expression as “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” God thereafter added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to you.’”—Exodus 3:14.
That this was not a change in God’s name, but rather additional insight into God’s personality, is seen from his further words: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation.” (Exodus 3:15; compare Psalms 135:13; Hosea 12:5.) The name Jehovah comes from the Hebrew verb ha‧wah′, “become,” and actually means “He Causes to Become.” This reveals Jehovah as the One who, with progressive action, causes himself to become the Fulfiller of promises. Thus he always brings his purposes to realization.

While we certainly want to appreciate the present and live it to the full, our lives must also reflect an appreciation along with actions showing faith that the promised future will come. It must be more then a matter of, ‘Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow I may die’. (Not that I came to the conclusion that you were advocating that line of reasoning or action)

This is a great post: I am mad @ myself for not reading your thoughts earlier. But I shouldn’t dwell in the past =P

This post reminds me of, is a well-expanded version of, and a personal account of Ghandi’s famous quote that I live by “Be the change you want to see in the world” in OUR world. Kudos, my friend!
