It equates with the image of gold set up by Nebuchadnezzar in the Plain of Dura. While a symbol of a country deserves respect, as does the President, ETC., a person professing to be Christian should not be saluting, paying homage, or pledging allegiance to them anymore then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would to the statute that Nebuchadnezzar set up, and for the same reasons.
